The Empower Life Skills course is delivered as a one day in-person interactive workshop held in Dubai. Workshop dates and venue details are updated on our website approximately two months in advance, with sessions typically running between January and March, ahead of the September university intake.

Course participant numbers are limited and students who have purchased the course will be admitted to the venue.

The course offers an interactive introduction to UK university life, covering social, cultural, and security topics, along with domestic, budgeting, and time management skills. It also includes strategies for physical and mental well-being, topped off with consultation interviews with UK security professionals, psychologists, and university staff.

Once you have attended the course, you will find some of the essential information that was given during the course in the members area of the Empower website once you log on. There is also the option of doing a shorter on-line refresher course before starting university to remind you of the information you will need to settle in smoothly and safely.

The Freshers product pack will be couriered to the university ready for your check-in day. You will need to pick it up from the Campus Central Office where it will be waiting for you. If you have subscribed to the Empower Personal Check-In service, your host will be responsible for picking up the pack and delivering it to your room on check-in day.

Empower hosts are existing students attending the same university who are very well acquainted with the campus and life at that university. They may often be official university ambassadors. Although we can’t guarantee the host gender, we would always try to match you with a suitable host wherever possible. All our hosts are CRB security checked and vetted by Empower.

The host would contact you nearer the time of the check-in day to introduce themselves and make arrangements to meet you.

No, the host would not unpack for you or touch personal items. The host would help to carry your luggage to your room, set up decorative items in the room, put small pieces of furniture in place, help you to make the bed and set up the bathroom.

You would have a personal orientation tour of the university campus and the surrounding area including key locations such as the security office, medical facilities, local banks and student services.

The host would then answer questions and give you their personal tips. They would finish off by helping you do your first grocery shop.

Telephone lines are open between 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. Monday – Friday. There is also a message line on WhatsApp that you can send messages to, and these will be responded to during opening hours.

The mentor would be in touch with the student on a monthly basis to arrange a convenient time to visit them in person.

The meeting would take place at the university in a social setting such as a coffee shop, and would involve talking through the student’s experience so far at the university, any issues and problems, and generally getting to know the student and offering advice with anything they need.

The student would have the choice of having this meeting with other Empower Platinum Mentoring Service subscribers, as a way of getting to know friends with a common background.
The meeting would last between 1-2 hours, and is a forum where help and advise can be offered.

After the meeting, subject to a GDPR waiver having been initially signed by the student, a report of the meeting and observations about the student’s progress will be sent to the parents of the student as a way for them to keep up to date with the well-being of their child.
